Potato Harvest at Ridley in Kent, 1941, Thomas
Hennell
Hennell had been commissioned by the War Artists Advisory Committee to record this vitally important harvest at a time when the Nation's self sufficiency was of the utmost importance. Civilian workers in London and other big cities were given time off work to assist with bringing in the crops. Hennell's depiction of this important moment in Britain's social history recalls the work of Millet, an artist he admired. Sold |
