Hennell moved into Orchard Cottage, near Ridley in Kent, while recuperating from the period of mental illness that incapacitated him between 1932-35. The wwatercolours he produced there formed part of a remarkable recovery process, which eventually saw him become an Official War Artist in the Second World War.
