CHARLES SAMUEL KEENE (1823-1891) Dry your tears; Lost in the Crowd; Military scene Pen & Ink Keene is acknowledged to be the greatest master of pen and ink drawing in Britain in the 19th Century – quite an accolade given the explosion of illustration that proliferated in a period inundated with an unprecedented number of periodicals. We have three sketches by Keene, all from the collection of Sir Kenneth Clark, who was an avid admirer of the artist's work.
