W.J Boddy was a drawing master from York, who specialised in ecclesiastical subjects and also taught at Ampleforth. St Lawrence’s Tower had recently been made redundant by the building of the adjacent church when Boddy made this study in 1891. Vanbrugh had been married there two hundred years before
